Taipei, Taiwan – In a landmark event held today at the Taiwan Presidential Office, His Majesty King Mswati III and Taiwan President H.E. Dr. William Lai Ching-te presided over the signing of two significant cooperation agreements and one Joint Declaration between Eswatini and Taiwan. The agreements cover crucial areas including central banks’ relations, business digitisation, and the strengthening of bilateral relations.

The bilateral meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Central Bank of Eswatini and the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan). This memorandum aims to bolster cooperation between the two financial institutions, fostering enhanced economic stability and financial collaboration.

A second agreement, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Eswatini Business Digitalisation Project, was also signed. This MoU is designed to fortify business digitalisation efforts, providing substantial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation journeys. Additionally, the project seeks to empower youth by creating a model version of the “Buy Eswatini” digital business platform, promoting local products and services.

The Joint Declaration reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of both nations to cement and enhance their bilateral relations. This declaration highlights the enduring friendship, mutual respect, and productive cooperation that have long defined the ties between Eswatini and Taiwan.

His Majesty King Mswati III expressed his optimism and gratitude during the event, stating, “This visit gives us the opportunity to reaffirm our support for the continuity of the relationship between the people of Eswatini and Taiwan. Friendship, mutual respect, and productive cooperation form the foundation of the ties that bind our two countries.”

President Lai echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Taiwan’s dedication to supporting Eswatini. “Your Majesty, I would also like to assure you that the programmes carried out by the previous administration will continue, and we will introduce new initiatives to further support the Kingdom. We wish Eswatini growth, peace, and development. The signing of these agreements and the communique is a demonstration that our two countries are ready to work together,” he stated.

The signing ceremony marks a significant step forward in the partnership between Eswatini and Taiwan, promising enhanced economic, technological, and diplomatic collaboration in the years to come.
