The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) achieved global recognition last night, winning the ‘Best Recirculation or Innovative Initiative’ award for its Coin Management Efficiencies Project. The accolade was conferred by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) during the Excellence in Currency Awards ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal.
Established in 2004, the IACA serves as a non-profit member organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the cash cycle. Through initiatives such as the Excellence in Currency Awards, launched in 2007, the association highlights outstanding achievements in banknote and coin production, distribution, and management across the global cash community.
In addition to the top award, the CBE was honored as a finalist in the ‘Best New Commemorative/Limited Circulation Coin’ category. The bank’s 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin, which was unveiled by His Majesty King Mswati III in May, celebrates Eswatini’s heritage by showcasing elements of technological progress, tourism, and national unity. This limited-edition coin underscores the kingdom’s advancements and unity and serves exclusively for commemorative purposes.
Representing CBE at the awards ceremony were Chief Operations Officer Mfanfikile Dlamini, Director of Operations Lungile Dlamini, Deputy Director of Operations: Currency & Banking Zodwa Nkambule, and Lead Specialist – Communications Lwazi Dlamini. Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi extended his congratulations, expressing pride in this recognition on the global stage.
Eswatini has a history of notable achievements in central banking; two years ago, it became the second African country to secure the Central Banking Website of the Year award, following Kenya. This international acclaim reflects the kingdom’s commitment to innovation and excellence in currency management.
