Lobamba Lomdzala, Eswatini – In a heartwarming celebration of the International Day of the Boy Child, Young Heroes, in collaboration with Legal Aid Eswatini under the Ministry of Justice, hosted an engaging and impactful event for 60 boys aged 10 to 17. Held under the theme “Positive Male Role Models,” the gathering aimed to uplift and inspire young boys, highlighting the importance of their well-being and the positive influence of role models in their lives.

The event took place at Lobamba Lomdzala and was a testament to the commitment of both organizations to the development and empowerment of the boy child. The International Day of the Boy Child is a day dedicated to focusing on the unique challenges and experiences faced by boys around the world. It raises awareness about critical issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), child labor and exploitation, access to education, and gender inequality.

Young Heroes, a renowned organization advocating for gender equality and equal opportunities for all children, emphasized the importance of addressing these issues. The event featured interactive sessions, discussions, and activities designed to foster a supportive environment where boys could share their experiences, learn from positive male role models, and build a sense of community.

The Ministry of Justice, represented by Legal Aid Eswatini, played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the event. Their involvement underscores the government’s dedication to promoting the rights and well-being of all children, ensuring that boys receive the guidance and support they need to thrive.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to engage with mentors and role models who shared their personal journeys, successes, and the challenges they have overcome. These interactions were aimed at inspiring the boys to aspire to greatness, develop resilience, and understand the value of positive behavior and attitudes.

In his address, a representative from the Ministry of Justice highlighted the importance of nurturing boys and providing them with opportunities to succeed. “Our boys face numerous challenges that often go unnoticed. Today, we celebrate their potential and commit to supporting them in every way possible. Positive male role models play a crucial role in shaping their futures and helping them navigate the complexities of life.”

The event also included educational sessions on various topics relevant to the boys’ lives, such as the importance of education, understanding their rights, and strategies to combat GBV and other forms of exploitation. By equipping the boys with knowledge and skills, the organizers aimed to empower them to become advocates for themselves and their peers.

The celebration of the International Day of the Boy Child at Lobamba Lomdzala was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended. The event not only celebrated the boy child but also reinforced the community’s commitment to creating a supportive and equitable environment for all children in Eswatini.

As the boys returned to their communities, they carried with them the lessons learned and the inspiration drawn from positive male role models. The event served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower the next generation of men in Eswatini.
